Airports in Cuba
There are many airports in Cuba, including those with international service and some that only handle domestic or regional flights. If you're planning a trip to Cuba, here are the major airports you will want to know about. They are listed by their nearest city or area. Havana The main entry point to Cuba is the Havana airport, José Martí International Airport. It's about 9 miles (or 15km) outside the capital city of Havana, and there is both taxis and public buses that can take you to and from the airport. It's a fairly modern airport with many travel services, including car rentals, restaurants and a bank. The airport code is HAV. Varadero Varadero is one of the most popular beach destinations in Cuba, located on the north coast of the island about a 2 hour drive east of Havana. The airport there is the Juan Gualberto Gómez Airport. It's an international airport, and the second largest one after the José Martí airport in Havana. Flights from many major cities in Canada and Europe are available if you are heading to Varadero. The airport code is VRA. Santiago de Cuba The city of Santiago de Cuba is at the south-eastern end of the island, and the airport there is the Antonio Maceo Airport. Technically, its an international airport but its fairly small and handles mainly regional traffic. Some flights from Canada and occasionally Europe arrive here. The code for this airport is SCU. Cayo Largo del Sur If you are heading to the resort island of Cayo Largo, you can plan your trip to arrive at the Vilo Acuña Airport. All the hotels on the island are within 10 minutes of the airport, and they likely all offer shuttle service for arriving guests. The airport code is CYO.
Santa Clara For any travel to central Cuba, you could arrive at the Abel Santa María Airport outside of Santa Clara. Be aware that it's a very small airport with no services except a snack bar. The code is SNU. Camaguey Another option for trips to central Cuba is to go to Camaguey, and the nearby Ignacio Agramonte International Airport. It is fairly small, but a better airport than the one in Santa Clara. International flights here are mainly from Canada. The code for the airport is CMW. Cayo Coco On the northern-coast island of Cayo Coco, the Jardine del Rey Airport is one of the busiest airports in Cuba. The airport has lounges, shops, a bank office and a restaurant. It's only minutes away from the many resorts on the island. There is no bus service, so ask if your hotel has a shuttle. The code is CCC.
